Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Monday administered the oath of office on members of the State Judicial Service Commission.

The governor also reminded the members that they had taken oaths to subscribe to the ideals of justice and progress which the State espouses.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor, Mr. Hakeem Bello quoted Fashola as saying this at the State Executive Council Chambers at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.

He added that the appointees should also note that they had taken an oath of secrecy which means that in the discharge of their duties they will come across information that must be guarded jealously in the overall interest of the State.

He explained that often some oaths are taken without the full consciousness of its impact, adding that this cannot be more felt than in the process of decision making when policies are being considered and the people who will take it do not feel confident that what they say will be protected.

He added that what was likely to obtain is incomplete contribution of people contributing out of fear, adding that the people who formulated the oath had the reason for it. They wanted a protection of not only the citizens but public servants.

Fashola affirmed that: “I hope in the course of taking policy decisions, you will keep the confidentiality of what has been brought to your knowledge. It is very important for the successful administration of the public service.

While thanking the new appointees for accepting to serve Lagos State, Fashola wished them the best “in the very challenging responsibility that they have signed up to undertake.”

Fashola said he described the assignment as being challenging because he considered the scope of responsibility they have to undertake in managing the welfare, discipline, remuneration and all those issues that pertain to the wellbeing of the State Judiciary and the hope and aspiration for the defence of the rights of 18million Lagosians.

While reminding everyone that the judiciary serves as the last sanctuary, both during democratic rules and other forms of government, Fashola said the new members must ensure that they make the judiciary respond to these tasks.

The Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Supo Sasore (SAN) said the appointees have all been found worthy of the appointment having been cleared by the State House of Assembly, expressing his appreciation to the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Hon Babatunde Ogala in the process.

The newly sworn in members are Mr Kunle Uthman, Mrs Abisola Oshodi, Mrs Folasade Iwajomo and Mr Taslim Animashaun who was unavoidably absent.

The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council, Hon Babatunde Ogala and family members of the newly sworn-in members.
